POLIO

As of May 7, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reports a total of one cVDPV2 case, three cVDPV2 environmental samples, and one cVDPV3 case in Africa. The cVDPV3 case was reported in Guinea and is the country's first in 2025. In addition, seven WPV1 environmental samples were detected in Pakistan.

 

H5N1

U.S.

As of May 12, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports no cases of person-to-person transmission of H5N1 in the United States. The total remains at 70 confirmed cases and one death.

 

MPOX

Africa

Uganda: As of May 4, 2025, Uganda has reported a cumulative total of 4,590 laboratory-confirmed mpox cases in 2025, according to the World Health Organization. This marks an increase from 4,033 cases reported on April 13, 2025.

Sierra Leone: Mpox cases in Sierra Leone continue to surge, with 1,387 confirmed cases reported as of May 4, 2025, according to the World Health Organization. The outbreak remains in rapid growth, with most cases recorded in just the past few weeks.

 

MEASLES

U.S.

As of May 9, 2025, the number of reported measles cases in the U.S. has reached a total of 1,001 confirmed cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 13% of cases (126 of 1,001) have required hospitalization, and three deaths have been reported.

As of May 9, 2025, the Texas Department of State Health Services reports 709 measles cases this year - an increase of 26 since May 2. While case numbers continue to rise, the weekly increase has declined for the third consecutive week, suggesting a potential slowdown in the outbreak’s momentum.
