Chemistry is a subject which you will study as a part of your bachelor programme at Roskilde University.
To understand chemistry is to understand our world at a molecular level. In Chemistry, we work with the properties, composition, and structure of atoms and molecules, the transformations they undergo, and the energy that is released or absorbed during these processes.
At the bachelor programme in Chemistry, you will acquire a solid understanding of and skills in organic, physical, analytical, and inorganic chemistry and biochemistry. We have a focus on chemical biology and sustainable chemistry, and we engage in research into green chemistry and energy, molecules of medicinal and biological interest, biophysical and protein chemistry, enzyme catalysis, and chemical characterisation.
Through these activities you will receive training in fundamental and cutting-edge theory, combined with modern practical laboratory techniques and skills.
As a student, you will participate in research from day one. The projects are designed to solve problems relevant to both you as a student, to the scientific research at Roskilde University and to society as a whole. Through your research, you will learn to see new perspectives, to identify problems and inconsistencies and to find new and better solutions.
All teaching and project writing is conducted in English.
Daily life while studying
You will become part of a committed and informal environment with close contact between students and teachers. We have good laboratory facilities where we meet for joint research and learning, and once a month we hold a common lunch with a professional presentation. Project and study groups are also an important part of the study environment, and the groups meet not only for academic purposes, but also often organise dinners and work weekends.
You will meet both Danish and international students, so there is always inspiration to be found and someone to accompany you to the Friday bar. All in all, one could say that we have good chemistry at the university.
From bachelor to master
A bachelor's degree from Roskilde University will provide access to study a master's programme. Depending on which subject(s) you choose as a part of your bachelor's programme, your degree will provide access to one or more of Roskilde University's master's programmes.
