RUC increases the number of electric charging points
In 2022, Roskilde University decided to expand the existing electric charging capacity in the university's car park, and just before the end of the year, 12 electric charging points with 24 outlets were ready for use. The new EV charging stations are located in RUC's P3 car park east of building 03 and are operated by OK. With the new electric charging points, the university has increased its charging capacity from eight to 32.
The university's other eight electric charging points are located in RUC's P2 car park south of building 12. This is where the university's first electric charging points were established back in 2019 and the charging points are operated by Clever. Originally, two charging stations with four outlets were installed, but as demand for charging points increased, RUC decided in 2022 to double the capacity of the P2 car park and install two more charging stations, so there are now eight electric charging points.

Promoting the sustainable transition
RUC's latest expansion of charging capacity in the P3 car park comes as a result of the university's climate and environmental report for 2019. In this report, it became clear that the university's greatest CO2 savings potential lies in the indirect emissions from RUC's users. By enabling the university's students and staff to make more climate- and environmentally friendly choices, CO2 savings can be achieved over a number of years that far exceed the savings potential for RUC's direct climate impact. The establishment of the charging stations thus contributes to promoting the sustainable transition beyond the university's borders.
However, this should not be interpreted as the university is resting on its laurels, because alongside promoting greener commuting to and from campus, RUC is also looking inwards at savings in direct emissions. Among other things, the focus is on how the university can reduce air travel, which accounts for 10% of RUC's total CO2 emissions. In addition, RUC has also replaced the university's security car with an electric car.
