CSS Lunch Series: Katia Dupret about civil leadership in the green transition
Civil leadership in the green transition - invitation to dialogue about agency
Politically and legally, the green transition is simply not moving fast enough. On the other hand, we see in many places that citizens are taking responsibility in new ways that both address environmental challenges and care for social communities. Examples such as Green Neighborhood Communities, Stop Spild Lokalt and Repair Café Denmark show how participation in local, green action communities constitutes new forms of political engagement and participation. This is the seed for the development of a new concept of civil leadership in a new partnership project. We do not see the practices and agency of civil leaders as an individual psychological trait (as is seen, for example, in Bandura's concept of self-efficacy), but as something that is developed through participation in social (and material) practices and through the recognition of our mutual connection with other people and nature (Dupret 2025; Moriggi et al. 2020; Puig del la Bellacasa 2017). I would like to hear your thoughts on this angle of agency in relation to sustainability, and hear if you have additional ideas on how a (socially oriented and management-relevant) concept of agency can be sharpened.
