Introduction to the programme
Social Psychology of Everyday Life is a subject which you will study as a part of your bachelor programme at Roskilde University.
How do we become the people we are? What does identity mean? How do we learn? How do we function in social contexts? How do we affect, and how are we affected by, the social relations and settings we meet? These are the central questions in Social Psychology of Everyday Life.
The bachelor subject Social Psychology of Everyday Life focuses on the relationship between the individual and society in a global context. We examine human subjectivity, personality, development, and socialisation – in short, the process of becoming a person in the world.
As a student, you will work with themes such as subjectivity, agent, social processes and practices, situational power relations, intersectionality, and management of entrepreneurial social change across different cultural and social contexts and values. Through these themes, you will learn to analyse how humans think and react, why they think and act as they do, and how they interact with culture and society through their actions.
This study equips you with a nuanced understanding of the social dynamics that shape human behaviour – a skill highly sought after in areas like social services, civic organisations, education, integration, community planning, and counselling.
All teaching and project writing is conducted in English.
Daily life while studying
The study environment at Social Psychology of Everyday Life reflects in many ways the topics we work with: We are a diverse group with both students and instructors from all over the world and with widely different backgrounds. This creates a good dynamic and an extra layer to our academic discussions, where we are never afraid to examine our own preconceptions.
Our students are often engaged in the world and want to make a difference with their studies, and there is a strong network in the program that you can carry into your professional life. We support this network with regular events, ranging from academic presentations to parties and gatherings.
